1. Restraint

The Smart Dog School Training Phases
Phase 1: Private Lessons (Leash Language & Foundation Work)

Held in a distraction-free environment, Phase 1 introduces our exclusive Smart Leash system and "Leash Language." Your dog will learn how to respond to leash pressure the same way you respond to an alarm clock or a seatbelt reminder—gently, naturally, without fear or frustration.

We also walk you through the

4 Stages of Learning: Fight/Flight/Avoidance/Acceptance

And teach you the 5 Steps to Success for foundational training. Once you and your dog master the basics, we progress to the next level.

Phase 2: Small Group Lessons (Real-Life Distractions & Socialization)

Limited to just 3 dogs, these sessions are held in our larger training room to introduce new variables—other dogs, people, and controlled distractions.

We focus on: Reinforcing behaviors under pressure. Understanding motivation (Reinforcement vs. Punishment) Teaching the 4 T’s of Arousal: Toys, Treats, Touch, Talking

You’ll learn how to reduce arousal and increase focus, even when you're not the most exciting thing in the room. Mastering Phase 2 means your dog can now perform calmly and reliably in most everyday situations.

Phase 3: Large Group / Maintenance Classes (Real World Application)

This is where everything comes together. Classes are held in real-world environments with 10, 20, or even 100+ dogs present. With unpredictable distractions and a dynamic atmosphere, you’ll be putting all of your training to the test.
